Solving the “Last Mile” Problem for High School Career Readiness

Schools spend over a decade teaching students foundational academic skills, but almost no time on career discovery and navigating pathways after high school. For schools, this is the “last mile” in launching students out of high school and into the real world.

CGN’s innovative Career Lab provides students with a unique interactive coaching experience that combines state-of-the-art AI technology with professional advice from 400+ national experts.

Students are coached to:

  • Gain insight into their strengths, interests, and work preferences based on their personality
  • Identify some career interests and goals
  • Consider personal matches from a dataset of over 700 high-value jobs
  • Map pathways to those jobs
  • Build career exploration and networking skills
  • Identify opportunities in their communities and online to test out career matches
  • And create their own plan for continuing to move forward towards their goals during high school

Empowering Counselors to Have Higher-Value Conversations with Students about Post-secondary Pathways and Careers

In the average US public high school, a single counselor actively serves hundreds of students. On an already full plate of tasks involving student adjustment and mental health, college admissions, and course scheduling, there is little room for student career guidance. Students are left to start on a post-secondary pathway many times before they know where they’re going and why. This opportunity gap hits students from lower-resourced communities hardest.

That’s why we developed Career Lab—to close the gap and serve all students in the process. Our AI-integrated course is the first layer of personalized career coaching, which frees up counselors, empowers counselors, paving the way for counselors to help facilitate better decision making.

Our AI Has Guardrails and Runs on the Advice of Trusted Experts

Most AI career tools are based solely on a large language model like ChatGPT, which serves up content based on algorithms. It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. Our AI is trained on a smaller set of content based on interviews with national experts – educators, college and career counselors, administrators, mental health practitioners, CEO’s, and others. We designed our chatbot to be prosocial, which means students won’t be engaged in an infinite scroll and they will never mistake the chatbot for a human.
